More than anything else, the performance of Crysis in DX10 mode with this late driver update shows the potential of the 3870 X2 card. Hopefully, that will be remedied before the driver becomes part of the regular Catalyst monthly driver updates. Interestingly, though this driver made great strides in multi-GPU performance on the X2 card, it didn’t translate over to two 3870 cards in CrossFire mode, which is still tragically slower than a single card. The speedups are substantial, and make the 3870 X2 the fastest single graphics card on the market in this game. Along with a couple of bug fixes, these drivers made dramatic improvements to Crysis-but only in DX10 mode. DX10 mode is another story entirely! You may have seen some early reviews of the 3870 X2 card on the ‘net-these were published before some “last minute” drivers provided by ATI.
